European interest in micropayments sky-rockets

European interest in micropayment commercial models is on the up, with two big announcements this week.  The first by Blendle, the Dutch ‘iTunes for news’, announcing new investments from Japanese media group Nikkei and Amsterdam-based investment fund INKEF Capital; the second by Adbock Plus owner Eyeo, who announced the acquisition of of micropayment service Flattr.  Read more on Poynter >>

Snapchat launches app install ads

This week saw Snapchat launch goal-based bidding functionality for its app install ads, meaning that advertisers can target Snapchat users who are likely to install apps - a move that is aimed squarely at a key source of Facebook’s mobile ad revenue.  Read more on Business Insider >>

Europe waves through Sky Takeover

21st Century Fox’s takeover of pay TV giant Sky is one step closer after the European Commission gave the £11.7 billion (€13.7 billion) deal the go-ahead.  The approval is unconditional under EU Merger Regulation, with the EC saying the move posed “no competition concerns”.  Read more on DigitalTVEurope >>

YouTube blocks ads on videos under 10,000 views

YouTube is taking measures to help ensure its user-generated content doesn’t end up positioning ads by big brands next to questionable content. The social network will not allow ads on channels that have fewer than 10,000 views total, across all their posted videos.  Read more on Techcrunch >>

Facebook Live videos rocket in popularity
