Murdochs set to acquire Sky

Murdoch-owned 21st Century Fox has made a bid to buy the 61% of UK pay-TV company Sky that it doesn't own, offering $14.1 billion - a 36% premium on the share price.  The bid comes 5 years after Murdoch made a previous bid.  With the recent change in US and UK leadership, and with James Murdoch sitting as Chairman of Sky it’s likely that this new bid will succeed.  Read more analysis on NiemanLab >>

Millions of Dailymotion account details hacked

Details of more than 85 million users on the France-based video sharing site DailyMotion have been hacked.  85.2 million usernames and email addresses, and 18 million scrambled passwords were stolen on 20th October.  Read more BBC >>

Guardian announces Vice partnership

The UK’s Guardian newspaper has struck a content deal with US media company Vice, for Guardian journalists to create news content for Vice’s nightly TV news channel, aired in the US and UK.  For the Guardian the partnership provides greater video-based news distribution, and for Vice its a way to add more credibility to its news programme.  Read more on the Guardian >>
